IDENTITY MEANS CHANGE

Berlin incorporates, freely adapted from Baudelaire, the fleeting moment of modernisation – and the certainty of steady development and new self-definitions. Urban structures and tendencies were the subject of many exhibitions of recent years. Now the cycle of communication, culture and social life which is important for change is moving into the focus.

Things which are still developing in Budapest are already looking for new targets in Berlin. The identity of both metropolises is disguising itself via the comparison. Budapest seems to be paused in a post-socialist condition for years from which multiculturalism and new urban definitions are emerging only lately.

The project “Urban Spaces Berlin Budapest“ joins nine artists of different heritage and socialisation: Some are still studying others can live from their art or are productive. The exhibition in both cities shows works originating from the artists’ reflectionson their own surroundings and the changes they encounter. “Urban Spaces Berlin Budapest“ offers a view on the perspectives of individual artists and opens a panorama of current international artistic positions.
